PACCAR Introduces Factory-Installed Fleet App Platform for Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks
Truck manufacturer PACCAR has announced the upcoming rollout of PACCAR Connect, a factory-installed touchscreen display and fleet application platform designed for Kenworth and Peterbilt Class 8 trucks. The system is scheduled to launch in early 2027 and aims to streamline in-cab technology by reducing the reliance on multiple aftermarket hardware devices.
The platform was unveiled at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference and Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to PACCAR executives, the integrated hardware and software environment connects fleet operators to the Virtual Vehicle application marketplace developed by Platform Science. PACCAR previously acquired a minority equity stake in Platform Science in March 2023 as part of its broader connected-vehicle investment strategy.
Consolidating Fleet Management and Diagnostics
The new PACCAR Connect Portal is designed to combine multiple back-office monitoring tools into a single interface. Fleet managers will be able to track vehicle health, remote diagnostics, operational mileage, real-time location data, warranty status, and engine idle times from one centralized dashboard.
Previously, Kenworth and Peterbilt utilized separate remote diagnostic subscriptions such as TruckTech+ and SmartLINQ, which were managed through the PACCAR Solutions portal. While the new portal consolidates these oversight metrics, the company has not yet confirmed whether PACCAR Connect will completely replace the legacy diagnostic systems or how it will impact existing subscription workflows.
Driver-Facing Displays and Custom Workflows
Inside the cab, drivers will interact with high-definition touchscreens tailored to specific vehicle models. Peterbilt trucks will feature a 13-inch portrait center display as standard equipment on Models 579, 589, and 567 starting in the first quarter of 2027. Kenworth vehicles will utilize a 15-inch center display layout.
- Voice recognition assistant capable of responding to over 250 commands in English, Spanish, and French.
- Display integration supporting up to eight camera inputs with automatic view-switching during reverse operations or turn signal activation.
- Dual Bluetooth phone pairing capabilities alongside Apple CarPlay support.
- Preloaded native applications covering digital operator manuals, instructional tutorials, vehicle health alerts, and a dealer locator service at no additional subscription cost.
Industry Context and Regional Rollouts
The North American launch follows earlier deployments by PACCAR in international markets. The company’s European brand, DAF, introduced PACCAR Connect as standard equipment across several vehicle lines in April 2024 with a ten-year service commitment, pairing the online fleet portal with an optional detachable tablet.
While North American fleets gain access to the integrated hardware and app marketplace connectivity, specific pricing details for the touchscreen displays, portal features, and third-party marketplace applications remain unannounced. Additionally, PACCAR confirmed that the new system will not be offered as a retrofit option for commercial trucks currently already in service.
