BILL Transforms Underwriting Operations With Proprietary Artificial Intelligence Suite
Financial operations platform provider BILL has successfully accelerated its underwriting cycle from three hours down to just 12 minutes through the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence technology. Chief Executive Officer and Founder René Lacerte shared the operational milestones during the company earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.
Deployment of Autonomous Risk Agents
According to leadership statements, the risk division at BILL has developed more than 100 autonomous artificial intelligence agents operating continuously to support multiple internal functions. These systems independently execute structured operational workflows, including gathering case documentation, compiling initial credit reviews, and authoring necessary model documentation.
The core underwriting acceleration is driven by a specialized collective of three agents known internally as Robin. This collaborative suite automates several manual duties:
- Directing incoming underwriting cases to the appropriate human professional
- Aggregating customer information into a consolidated executive summary
- Providing a direct, single-click interface for final decision-making
Previously, staff members had to manually aggregate fragmented data using separate software dashboards, electronic mail threads, and internal messaging tools. The new automated setup removes these friction points, delivering significantly faster turnaround times for small and medium-sized business clients while allowing internal teams to concentrate on higher-value tasks.
Broader Operational Restructuring
Beyond risk assessment and underwriting, artificial intelligence integration has impacted customer support and product development velocity at BILL. The conversational tool Chat with BILL now manages nearly 45 percent of all customer support interactions autonomously. Furthermore, the organization leveraged its enhanced development workflows to construct a Visa pilot program within a four-week timeframe, while launching five distinct products during the quarter.
These technology deployments align with broader structural changes implemented throughout the previous fiscal year. Management previously reduced headcount and restructured leadership to accelerate the transition into an artificial intelligence-native organization. Leadership noted that these operational adjustments have yielded measurable improvements in sales execution, product delivery, and overall corporate productivity.
