Bermuda-based specialty insurer Mosaic Insurance has officially introduced a proprietary digital underwriting system aimed at accelerating the delivery of complex coverage options to small and midsize enterprises. Known as HALO, the new modular platform integrates broker trading interactions, underwriting decisions, and ongoing portfolio results into a single, cohesive operating environment designed specifically for commercial insurance markets.
Rather than functioning merely as a single-product quoting tool, HALO serves as a comprehensive artificial intelligence infrastructure that spans multiple lines of business. According to company leadership, the modular architecture allows the firm to design, deploy, and adjust products, geographic territories, and distribution partnerships rapidly without needing to continually rebuild foundational technology and operational frameworks. This flexibility addresses long-standing bottlenecks in commercial insurance distribution where traditional platforms often struggle to adapt to changing market demands.
The system has been built to accommodate diverse broker workflows by supporting submissions through standard email, application programming interface integrations, and a dedicated portal. Once an application is submitted, the platform automatically structures, enriches, and organizes the intake data. This automated parsing minimizes the necessity for follow-up questions or repetitive touchpoints, allowing straightforward risks to move quickly through the underwriting pipeline. Standard, eligible risks can advance through an automated quote, bind, and issuance workflow within minutes, while more complex risks or exceptions are automatically routed to specialized human underwriters.
Beyond transactional speed, HALO grants the insurer comprehensive visibility across the entire submission funnel. Leadership noted that the technology evaluates submission patterns, conversion rates, risk quality, pricing metrics, retention levels, and coverage limits in real time. This continuous data flow helps monitor potential exposure concentrations across industries and emerging technologies—a critical capability for complex specialty lines where single events can impact multiple policyholders simultaneously.
The first product deployed on the new infrastructure is an SME Cyber Tech Errors and Omissions offering, currently accessible to wholesale broker partners across North America. This initial offering pairs the digital underwriting engine with specialized cyber expertise, internal claims authority, around-the-clock incident response services, and Lloyd’s-backed financial backing. Furthermore, the platform extends active risk management beyond the initial policy bind. Both brokers and insureds can leverage continuous cyber risk intelligence and telemetry monitoring throughout the lifecycle of the policy to track shifts in risk exposure.
Mosaic executives emphasized that the core innovation of the platform lies in connecting daily workflow mechanics directly to portfolio management. Pricing rules, risk appetites, and coverage guidelines can be calibrated and tested within tight timeframes of 24 to 48 hours. Recurring feedback from brokers and clients can also be evaluated and integrated into the product parameters without triggering cumbersome manual reviews.
Co-founder and co-chief executive Mitch Blaser described the rollout as a significant evolution in operational capacity and market reach, driven by artificial intelligence designed to augment human underwriting expertise rather than replace it. Liam Jones, CEO of Mosaic’s agency business, and George Cole, head of SME cyber, both highlighted that the infrastructure provides unprecedented real-time control over portfolio development while respecting preferred broker communication channels. Following the cyber launch, Mosaic plans to expand the HALO platform to incorporate additional specialty lines from its existing portfolio.
