SAP TechEd 2026 Focuses on Autonomous Enterprise and Advanced AI Architecture
Software provider SAP used its annual developer conference in Berlin to outline a comprehensive strategy aimed at helping organizations build autonomous business systems. Company executives demonstrated a series of new artificial intelligence tools and platform updates designed to merge deterministic enterprise workflows with modern agentic intelligence.
Expanding Intelligent Automation Across Enterprise Landscapes
During the keynote presentation, Chief Technology Officer Philipp Herzig addressed the shifting paradigm for software development. Thirty years after holding its first developer event, the firm emphasized that combining classical enterprise structures with newer machine learning capabilities unlocks operational value. The centerpiece of this rollout includes the newly introduced Joule Work and the overarching SAP Business AI Platform.
Joule Work serves as a redesigned cross-application interface connecting standard business systems with external applications such as Microsoft Office 365, Claude Cowork, Glean, and ServiceNow. According to corporate leadership, the interface adapts to user preferences and context across various devices, including desktop, mobile, voice interfaces, and automotive displays. Early testing involved over 110,000 employees and more than 150 customer participants in an early adopter program.
Deploying Pre-Built Assistants and Domain Specific Agents
Manoj Swaminathan, president and chief product officer for the SAP Autonomous Suite, introduced a collection of pre-built assistants and agents spanning five horizontal domains. These include specialized tools such as a Financial Consolidation Assistant targeted at reducing month-end closing times, a Sourcing Assistant to lower ownership costs, and a Supplier Management Assistant aimed at mitigating vendor risk.
- Financial tools focused on accelerating ledger closures and compliance reporting.
- Sourcing assistants designed to optimize total cost of ownership across procurement networks.
- Risk management capabilities built to detect and respond to supply chain vulnerabilities.
To support customized development, the company highlighted Joule Studio, a platform that allows builders to create agents using natural language descriptions and minimal code logic. The environment integrates with the SAP Knowledge Graph to locate relevant application programming interfaces and data products, reducing the time required to deploy custom automation logic.
Data Integration and Regulatory Compliance
Addressing the underlying data requirements for enterprise intelligence, leadership announced that the Databricks platform will be available natively within the SAP Business Data Cloud. This integration aims to combine disparate corporate records into a unified master foundation. Furthermore, new governance frameworks were introduced to address evolving regulatory landscapes, including the European Union artificial intelligence regulations.
Michelle Niedernhuber detailed the release of an AI Governance Assistant designed to guide users through risk classifications and produce audit-ready documentation. Additional runtime controls, including the SAP Enterprise AI Gateway, provide policy enforcement, protocol translation, and advanced access control across complex multi-cloud architectures.
Extending Automation into Physical Environments
The organization also demonstrated physical artificial intelligence applications extending software logic into warehouse and industrial settings. Collaborating with hardware manufacturers like Intel and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the technology has been tested in operational environments ranging from terrestrial manufacturing facilities to telemetry processing in space exploration systems. These deployments aim to translate digital business decisions into physical actions while feeding verified outcomes back into core enterprise ledgers.
