SAP Expands Business Data Cloud Capabilities to Support Autonomous Enterprise Initiatives
At the recent SAP TechEd event in Berlin, software vendor SAP introduced a series of data fabric and lakehouse enhancements designed to help corporate systems run artificial intelligence agents with greater accuracy and autonomy. According to the company, successful deployment of enterprise AI relies not just on rapid results, but on deep operational context that bridges scattered data stores and company policies.
Extending the Business Data Fabric with Open Lakehouses
To prevent costly data duplication across multiple silos, SAP is integrating recently acquired technologies to strengthen its open lakehouse foundation. The platform now incorporates native support for Apache Iceberg and a universal catalog powered by Apache Polaris, allowing organizations to share and govern information across multiple platforms. Interoperability features enable zero-copy data sharing with major cloud partners including Databricks, Snowflake, Google, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft.
Furthermore, the high-performance query engine gained through the Dremio acquisition lets users federate access across diverse relational databases and lakehouse environments without physically moving records. Integrated natural language capabilities via Joule Work allow staff to query complex datasets using everyday phrasing. To maintain rapid response times without manual optimization, Dremio reflection technology automatically adapts to changing query patterns and precomputes analytical workloads.
Unifying Master Data and Building Context
Accurate automated decision-making requires robust governance and entity resolution. With the completion of its Reltio acquisition, SAP has made its multi-domain master data management capabilities generally available within the SAP Business Data Cloud. This system uses artificial intelligence to harmonize customer, supplier, and product records across both SAP environments and third-party applications, providing a reliable 360-degree view.
To turn raw information into usable rules and relationships, the company highlighted the role of its SAP Knowledge Graph. Building on this foundation, the new SAP Business Data Cloud Ontology Manager lets development teams construct domain-specific views tailored to distinct business scenarios. By establishing targeted semantic boundaries, organizations can ground their autonomous agents in relevant governance frameworks and relationship rules.
- Unifies fragmented corporate information without creating redundant data silos.
- Applies automated reflection technology to maintain high-speed analytical performance.
- Leverages domain-specific ontology management to guide specialized artificial intelligence agents.
